Storm batters coast, few problems
The first autumn storm of 2007 led to very high water levels on some parts of the coast last night but caused few problems.
The Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier was closed as a precautionary measure and parts of Rotterdam port were inaccessible to shipping as other storm barriers were closed.
In Zeeland, the sea level reached 3.43 metres above NAP, its third-highest level since the Deltaworks flood defences were built. At Delfzijl in the north, the sea level is expected to reach 4 metres above NAP later today.
