Skater Kramer sets new world record
Speed skater Sven Kramer set a new world record for the 5000 metre race in Calgary on Saturday and won the world championship.
He shaved four seconds off the former world record, finishing the distance in six minutes, 3.32 seconds. The 21-year-old Frisian now tops the all-time world rankings.
On Friday Dutchman Simon Kuipers (25) won the 1500 metre race. He was set to be the fastest skater in the 1000 metre event on Sunday but only managed third place. The Canadian Denny Morrison took the gold.
