Sex offenders data base for volunteers

The cabinet is to set up a national database of sex offenders who work in the voluntary sector.

The aim is to allow organisations to check whether workers have abused children in the past. In addition, volunteers working with children will have to have a formal certificate of good behaviour (VOG) justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin told MPs on Tuesday evening.
Of the 4.5 million people who do voluntary work in the Netherlands, some 2.1 million have contact with children, news agency ANP said.
