Netherlands and Russia sign gas deal

The Netherlands and Russia reached an agreement on gas pipelines on Tuesday evening during prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s visit to Moscow.

The Netherlands’ company Gasunie will take a 9% interest in a pipeline bringing Russian gas via the Baltic Sea to West Europe and Russia’s Gazprom will take 9% in a pipeline taking gas from the Netherlands to the British Isles.
The agreement was signed yesterday evening in the presence of Balkenende and the Russian president Vladimir Putin. Balkenende called it a guarantee for the delivery of energy in the future.
