Mayor apologies for police action
The mayor of Middelburg has apologised for the way police used batons to break up last Friday’s demonstration by school pupils against the strict adherence of lesson targets (1,040 hours per academic year).
The mayor admitted too much violence had been used by police in some instances. The formal police investigation into the incident continues.
