Justice dept calls for ‘wanted’ list

A senior justice department official has called for a list of the most wanted escaped criminals and those suspected of serious crimes to be made public, complete with photos and descriptions.

In an interview with today’s AD newspaper, Diederik Greive says the time is right for such a move: ‘We have always been hesitant in this country when it comes to reporting on wanted criminals and suspects, letting privacy consideration weight heavily.
‘But now people are willing for a certain degree of privacy to be sacrificed. Society says that we should use this form of detection if it means we can prevent something worse from happening.’
Grieve wants a list of wanted persons to be published on the internet by the end of next year. He points out that similar lists already exist many European countries and the US.
