High tax rate may encourage rich to flee

At least 4% of richer Dutch citizens are considering emigrating to avoid taxes, according to a survey of 480 people earning upwards of €75,000 for Miljonair magazine.

‘The richer the person the faster they want to move,’ said editor Onno Arden. Two-thirds of those polled expect finance minister Wouter Bos’s policies to have a negative effect on their own financial position.
Most rich people consider a tax rate of around 22% as reasonable, the survey concluded. The current top tax rate is 52% on income over €53,000 a year.
