Nearly half the Dutch back a merger with Flemish-speaking Belgium, according to a weekend poll by Maurice de Hond.

In total, 45% are in favour the poll shows, most of them people who would vote for Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration party PVV. But those against a merger with Flanders are still in the majority with 49%.
It is noticeable, says newspaper Dag which carried the results, that 80% of respondents think the Flemish are ‘nice’.
