Dutch youth arrested in Holloway case
Dutch student Joran van der Sloot has been arrested again in connection with the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway who vanished during a holiday on Aruba two-and-a-half years ago.
Van der Sloot (20) was arrested in Arnhem on Wednesday evening following a request from the Aruban prosecution department.
Dutch prosecutors say Van der Sloot faces charges of manslaughter and causing grevious bodily harm. The arrest follows the discovery of new evidence on Aruba, the department said in a statement.
The case has attracted widespread attention and caused political tension between Aruba and the US.
Van der Sloot is one of three young men who spent the evening with Holloway on May 30, 2005, the night she disappeared. The two other men, the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, have been arrested on Aruba. All three were arrested shortly after Holloway disappeared but were later released.
The Aruban authorities called on the help of Dutch police last year when their investigation reached an impasse. A team of 20 detectives was set up to investigate the case this summer. They also searched the Van der Sloot family home on the island.
In total 10 people have been arrested and released in connection with the case, including Van der Sloot’s father.
