Having been dumped unceremoniously out of both European competitions, Ajax were out to salvage some domestic honour on Wednesday evening.
The managerless Amsterdammers succeeded, beating Heerenveen 3-1 in the Arena to go through to the fourth round of the Dutch cup competition.
John Heitinga and Hedwiges Maduro gave Ajax a 2-0 half time lead, with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar adding a third half way through the second period. Michael Bradley replied for Heerenveen.
