Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman who on Monday evening dropped or threw a one-year-old child from the fourth floor of the Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam before jumping from the building herself.

The child died and the woman is in hospital with severe injuries, the police said.
The Bijenkorf , which is open for business again on Tuesday morning, said the balcony on the fourth floor meets safety requirements but that it would look again at the situation. Shop staff have been offered help by the victims support organisation Slachtofferhulp.
ANP news service reports that a man jumped from the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam earlier this year and died shortly afterwards.
