Six men were arrested in Amsterdam at the weekend on suspicion of planning to set fire to cars, police said on Monday.

On Saturday, three youths, aged 16, 17 and 19, were arrested carrying a fizzy drinks bottle filled with petrol. On Sunday three others, aged 16, 26 and 27 were picked up with a jerry can of fuel.
Five cars were torched in the borough of Slotervaart on Saturday night, in a sixth evening of disturbances.
There has been unrest in the neighbourhood since the shooting dead of a mentally-disturbed man who stabbed police officers in the local police station.
