Radical Islam winning ground in the Netherlands
The non-violent variation of radical Islam is winning ground in the Netherlands, according to a report by the security service AIVD reported in Tuesday’s Volkskrant. The the violent version of Islam, the jihad, is not making much headway in this country, the report says.
Of the one million Muslims in the Netherlands, between 20,000 to 30,000 are susceptible to the message of this non-violent radical movement, known as Salafism, the AVID estimates.
The AIVD warns that the growth of Salafism could cause many Muslims to turn away from Dutch society.
Members of the Muslim community who feel threatened and intimidated by the radicals could be in danger as a result of the increasing popularity of Salafism, the AIVD says.
