Older women in court over breast checks

Three elderly women are taking the state to court today because they are not included in the national breast cancer check-up scheme.

The government has an age limit of 75, even though thousands of older women develop breast cancer.
Doctors argue that there is no proven benefit to screening older women. ‘As long as there is no evidence, it is only logical that we maintain an age limit,’ said Harry de Koning, chairman of the national breast cancer screening evaluation committee in Friday’s Volkskrant.
