Learn to drive at 17, says minister

Transport minister Camiel Eurlings has suggested allowing 17-year-olds to learn to drive under the supervision of an experienced driver.

Currently drivers must be at least 18 and can only take the wheel when they are with a qualified driving instructor.
Eurlings says research in Germany has shown that allowing drivers behind the wheel at 17 cuts down accidents involving young motorists.
