Dutch goal-keeper Edwin van der Sar has been forced to withdraw from the national team ahead of the European championship qualifiers against Romania and Slovenia because of a toe injury, reports Sky News on Friday.
Van der Sar has already missed two matches for his British club, Manchester United as a result of the injury.
National coach Marco van Basten is disappointed, says Sky, but urges his players to remain focused.
Van Basten will almost certainly choose Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg to replace Van der Sar for Saturday’s duel against Romania, says ANP news service..
Holland are currently level on points with Romania at the top of Group G, with four games still to play.
