‘Experts’ to judge foreign state firm activity

Economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven wants to set up a ‘committee of experts’ to look into the eventual takeover of Dutch companies by foreign state-owned firms.

The minister told business tv show RTL-Z she wanted to prevent Dutch firms which are of importance to the entire economy coming under foreign political influence.
While the Netherlands has opened its markets to foreign players, not all foreign markets are open to Dutch firms, the minister pointed out.
However, she did not name any companies or sectors which could be affected nor did she say what measures could be taken to stop such takeovers.
