Civil service strikes loom

Teachers at trade schools (mbo) are poised to take industrial action after a break-down in their pay talks, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

Trade school employers want teachers to increase their actual teaching hours from a maximum 823 hours a year to a maximum 1,200, the paper says. In return teachers want an extra month’s pay and more say in how schools are run. A series of revolving strikes are due to start on October 11 in Hengelo.
Local authority civil servants are also considering taking action after their pay talks broke down over age-related redundancy.
