Ajax in shock exit from UEFA cup
Ajax Amsterdam made a surprise exit from football’s UEFA cup on Thursday after a 3-2 home defeat by Dinamo Zagreb.
Ajax won the away leg two weeks ago 1-0 but the Croatians go through to the next round on the away goals rule.
SC Heereveen, FC Twente and FC Groningen also all failed to make it to the next round.
Alkmaar’s AZ, with a 0-0 draw against Portuguese club Paços de Ferreira, is the only Dutch football club to go through to stage two. AZ won the away first leg 1-0.
