MPs want tougher action on top pay
The call for limits to top people’s pay by Finance minister Wouter Bos do not go far enough, according to a majority of MPs quoted in today’s Financieele Dagblad.
Rather than leaving it up to supervisory boards to impose a ceiling on salaries, the concept should be included in the Tabaksblat corporate governance code, MPs from all sides of the political spectrum told the paper.
Yesterday Bos warned that if supervisory boards did not put a limit on top salaries ‘extra measures could be necessary’. He did not say what these might be.
Compliance with the Tabaksblat code is voluntary but companies which deviate from its recommendations must explain their reasoning in their annual report.
