Cabinet may slash new car tax
The cabinet is considering lowering the tax on new cars in 2008, Tuesday’s Financieele Dagblad quotes sources in The Hague as saying.
The motor vehicle tax (bpm) would fall by 6.5% next year and a similar amount in following years, the paper says. People buying a new car currently pay tax of some 22% over their vehicles net list value.
To compensate, road tax would be increased, the paper says.
