Six times more children hospitalised after drinking

The number of people admitted to hospital with alcohol poisoning doubled in the period between 2000 and 2005 while the increase in the age group 10 to 15 is six-fold, according to research by the Consumer Safety Foundation.

In total 1,800 people are taken to hospital after drinking too much alcohol. Of these around one hundred are under 15 and 500 between 15 and 19 years old.
The survey also found that 63,000 people (8% of the total) that report to emergency departments of hospitals following accidents or fights have been drinking.
