KPN confirms interest in Tele2/Versatel Belgium

Telecoms group KPN has confirmed media speculation that it is considering the takeover of Belgian rival Tele2/Versatel Belgium for €1m.

Tele2/Versatel Belgium is active in the fixed line and, to a lesser extent, mobile phone market. KPN already owns Belgian mobile phone provider BASE.
In the same statement on Tuesday morning KPN denied rumours that it is interested in acquiring French mobile telephone firm Bouygues.
KPN also announced that it wants to accelerate its €1bn share buy-back programme to take advantage of lower share prices.
ANP news service reported, according to Versatel, KPN is not the only company interested in its Belgian operator.
