Infection scare at Brabant hospital
Some 500 patients at the Bernhoven hospital in Oss en Veghel may have been treated with equipment which had not been sterilised, reports Brabants Dagblad on Thursday.
Four machines used to sterilise equipment that is used to look inside stomachs, lungs and intestines have not been working properly, exposing patients to infections such as HIV and hepatitis, the paper says.
The hospital says the machine supplier is to blame for the problems. The patients involved have been send a letter asking them to come to the hospital for a blood test, but the hospital says the chance of infection is very small.
