Budget plans wine and beer tax hike

Taxes on wine and beer will go up to €0.49 and €0.11 per bottle respectively next year according to proposals leaked from the government’s budget plans, reports the Volkskrant.

The increase is part of efforts by the ChristenUnie family affairs minister André Rouvoet to reduce teenage drinking. The tax on wine will go up by €0.05 and beer by €0.02, the paper says.
