Bos expected to OK Barclays proposed takeover ABN

Finance minister Wouter Bos is expected to announce on Monday that he has no objections to the proposed takeover of Dutch bank ABN Amro by Britain’s Barclays bank, reports ANP news agency.

Reliable sources expect Bos to approve the proposed takeover following a formal recommendation by the Dutch central bank, says ANP. Neither the finance ministry nor the central bank could confirm the report.
Barclays applied for a so-called ‘no objection declaration’ from the Dutch central bank in May. The bank is obliged to recommend its decision to the finance ministry within 13 weeks.
Barclays has been embroiled in a takeover battle for ABN Amro with a consortium led by the Royal Bank of Scotland for several months.
