Asylum amnesty: 12,600 to stay so far
Around 12,600 people have so far been officially granted the right to remain in the Netherlands following the amnesty for certain categories of failed asylum seekers introduced in June.
A further 650 people have been refused permission to stay because they do not meet criteria laid down by the immigration service.
This group include suspected war criminals, those with criminal records and asylum seekers who have repeatedly lied about their identity or the length of time they have been in the Netherlands.
The figures were revealed by immigration minister Nebahat Albayrak in a letter to MPs on Wednesday. According to ANP news service another 25,000 to 30,000 could still be eligible for a residency permit.
