Almost 130 child ‘kidnapping’ cases
Justice ministry officials had to deal with 129 cases of child ‘kidnapping’ in 2006, involving a total of 176 children. Of them, 34 cases involved children brought to the Netherlands while 128 children were taken abroad.
The figures show that mothers are much more likely than fathers to take their children away. Western Europe, often France, was the most popular destination.
