Ajax out of Champions League

Ajax are out of the European Champions League for the second year running after their humiliating 2-1 defeat against Slavia in Prague on Wednesday night. The Dutch goal was scored by Luis Suarez in the second half.

According to the Telegraaf, Amsterdam trainer Henk ten Cate had expected the Czech team to play a defensive game and was taken by surprise when Slavia came into the match with the clear intention to score goals.
Losing their place in the Champions League is also a big financial setback for Ajax. Financial director Jeroen Slop told ANP news agency the club stands to lose at least €13m in the coming season.
