The cabinet must take steps to shore up the spending power of people on the lowest incomes, Christian Democrat and Labour MPs say in today’s AD newspaper.
The MPs were reacting to the latest forecast from the government’s economic policy unit CPB which predicts a slight fall in spending power next year because of tax increases.
Ministers are planning to raise several environment taxes, such as levies on air travel, new cars and packaging. The cabinet should ‘make a great effort to maintain the spending power of ordinary families,’ said Labour MP Ferd Crone.
