Michaëlla Krajicek has reached the quarter finals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament after beating US player Laura Granville 6-3 6-4. The 18-year-old, half-sister of former Wimbledon champion Richard, will take on either Serbia’s Jelena Kankovic or France’s Marion Bartoli on Wednesday. Jankovic is third in the world rankings.
‘I am so happy, I really did not expect this,’ Krajicek said after the match, which was interupted by rain. ‘I don’t think I have realised it yet.’
A Dutch female player has not reached the Wimbledon final eight since Brenda Schultz in 1995.
