ID card price set to rise 25%

The cost of an identity card is to go up by at least 25% next year, according to today’s Telegraaf.

The maximum local councils can charge for ID cards is currently €31.26. It is compulsory in the Netherlands to be able to identify yourself.
The cost of the ID card was frozen in 2005 in the hope of making them more popular than a passport. However, an evaluation by the government has shown that this has not been the case.
