Huge mobile internet bills for holidaymakers

The consumers association Consumentenbond has urged junior economic affairs minister Frank Heemskerk to take action against mobile phone providers which it claims have not done enough to warn holidaymakers about the high cost of mobile internet abroad.

The organisation says it has received dozens of calls from people confronted with bills running into the thousands of euros after using their phone or laptop to access the internet while on holiday.
Some providers charge up to €30 for mailing 1 MB of information from abroad, equal to one mail with a high-resolution photograph, the organisation said.
