A foundation which promotes the Dutch language has taken 18 Rotterdam primary schools to court to ban them from giving children an occasional one hour history lesson in English.

According to the NRC Handelsblad, the association wants a total ban on English classes and says the schools are breaking the law by teaching a specific subject in a foreign language.
The judge is due to rule on the case in six weeks time.
