Fury over ex-military chief’s pay packet

MPs and trade unions are furious over the revelation that ex-military chief Ad van Baal will earn almost €200,000 a year now that he has been appointed chairman of the police academy, reports today’s AD newspaper.

The 60-year old general receives a military pension of around €100,000 and will now be paid €90,000 as head of the police academy. MPs point out that this puts his total income way over that of ministers and want the government to take action.
But Van Baal is not considering bowing to public pressure. ‘I know my rights,’ he told the AD.
