Dutch alone on inter-ethnic policy
Creating policy to stimulate contact between natives and ethnic minority immigrants is a largely Dutch phenomenon, according to researchers at the government’s social policy unit SCP.
‘Outside the Netherlands we have found little evidence of policy which has inter-ethnic contact as an explicit aim,’ the researchers said.
The researchers identified 400 Dutch initiatives to stimulate integration, mainly one-off events like street parties. However, the best way to promote an ethnic mix was to encourage rich people to move to poorer areas, the SCP said.
