Alkmaar is the most expensive place in the country for students to live in followed by Utrecht and Leiden, according to website Kamer.nl.

A four metre by five metre room in Alkmaar costs €400 on average. The cheapest student accommodation is in Maastricht.
Both the Kamer.nl researchers and Alkmaar town council said they were surprised by the results. ‘Alkmaar makes a serious effort to provide cheap housing for young people,’ a council spokesman told the Parool.
