RBS ends talks on ABN Amro’s LaSalle
Royal Bank of Scotland has broken off talks with Bank of America about LaSalle, RBS CEO Fred Goodwin said on Tuesday.
ABN Amro has sold LaSalle to Bank of America but the deal has been frozen by the Dutch courts because it did not have shareholder approval.
RBS wants to take over LaSalle itself and says the takeover is a core element in its bid for ABN Amro. Barclays is also competing for the Dutch banking group.
Goodwin also said on Tuesday that the RBS-led takeover would result in 19,000 job losses worldwide.
