Murder rate falls for third year

The murder and manslaughter rate in the Netherlands has fallen for the third year running, according to national statistics office CBS.


In total,160 people were killed unlawfully in 2006, the lowest total since 1996. Rotterdam and Amsterdam averaged 2.2 and 2.1 murders per 100,000 people – double the national figure.
