Armed robberies on shops up 12%
The number of armed robberies on Dutch shops rose 12% in the first five months of this year to 323. The increase is strongest in the big cities.
The Dutch retailers association said it fears many small shopkeepers will cease trading because they cannot afford measures such as security cameras and called on the government to give shopkeepers a tax break in crime-prone areas.
