Suspended sentence for Savanna’s uncle
A court in The Hague has sentenced Reffles Mulders to 120 hours of community service and three months imprisonment suspended for two years for his role in abusing the toddler Savanna. Mulders’ was Savanna’s uncle and babysitter.
Savanna died in 2004 after being systematically and brutally abused by her mother and her boyfriend.
The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence that Mulders’ treatment of the girl had led to physical injury or death. The court also accepted medical advice that the accused was not wholly responsible for his actions.
Last year Savanna’s mother was sentenced to six years imprisonment and an indefinite period of psychiatric treatment for killing her daughter. Her former partner received a two year jail sentence plus indefinite detention in a psychiatric prison.
