Dutch pull out European payment system
Dutch retailers have pulled out of talks with banks and financial service sector organisations on the introduction of a new single European payment system, fearing a sharp increase in costs.
Some 98% of payments made by direct debit card (pin card) are local transactions, making an expensive international payment system unnecessary, spokesman Henk van den Broek told the Financieele Dagblad.
