Asylum amnesty: few problems expected
The justice ministry says it expects few appeals from asylum seekers who fall outside the amnesty for long-term refugees agreed by the cabinet last Friday.
Under rules on refugees, people facing deportation can appeal in court. ‘But the criteria are straightforward and clear so we don’t expect many appeals,’ a spokesman told ANP.
Between 20,000 and 30,000 asylum seekers fall under the amnesty. They have to have arrived in the country before 2001, be free of criminal convictions, and have been in the Netherlands for the entire period.
