Too much help doesn’t reach the poor

Getting proper help to the poor is difficult because so many different organisations are involved, says a report published on Wednesday by 27 medium-sized local councils, known as the G27.

For example, the report says, a needy family can be faced with 20 different organisations all offering help of some sort.
Cooperation between providers is also difficult because of conflicting demands. For example, one social worker will recommend someone stays at home because of ill-health, while another wants them to ‘resocialise’ by going back to work, the report points out.
