Terrorism czar gets 12.5% pay rise

Dutch anti-terrorism czar Tjibbe Joustra saw his income rise by 12.5% to €224,0442 last year which means his salary is almost €100,000 higher than the prime minister, reports Saturday’s Financieele Dagblad.

Joustra was sacked as head of the social benefits office UWI in 2004 because of the government’s lack of confidence in his performance. But that didn’t stop the government from giving him his current job.
Meanwhile, Donald Shepard of Aegon heads the Volkskrant’s ranking of best paid CEOs in 2006 with an annual income of €6.35bn, up almost 48% on 2005. He is followed by ING’s Michel Tilmant (€4.23 bn, up by 22%) and Jeroen van der Veer of Shell (€4.02bn, a rise of 6%).
