Sphinx in EU bathroom tap cartel probe

European commissioner Neelie Kroes is investigating a potential cartel amongst bathroom tap and shower makers, including Dutch firm Sphinx.

The EC is looking at bathroom fixtures and fittings makers in six EU countries. The companies concerned have two months to reply to the commission’s questions. If there is proof of a cartel, Kroes can impose a fine of up to 10% of a company’s turnover.
Kroes, a former Dutch government minister, fined lift and escalator makers a total of €1bn in February. ANP reports that the commissioner expects to deal with 10 cartels this year.
