MPs want action on ‘underpaid’ WAO

The social affairs ministry must look again at the case files of 30,000 incapacity benefit claimants to find out if they are being paid enough benefit, a majority of MPs said on Thursday evening.

The 30,000 people are paid benefit on the basis of a 38-hour week, while they worked longer hours and so paid higher premiums, the Volkskrant reported on Friday. Incapacity benefit (WAO) is calculated on the basis of a maximum 38-hour week.
Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner says he is only willing to look again at the cases of the 6,000 to 8,000 claimants who have appealed against their lower benefit payment.
