Minister to tackle aggression in sport
Junior sports minister Jet Bussemaker has vowed to tackle aggression, discrimination and alcohol abuse in sport. Her pledge follows a survey published on Tuesday by the government’s social policy bureau (SCP).
The report concludes that 12% of those who sport have witnessed some form of physical aggression. Some 14% have suffered insults about homosexuality and 20% have been the target of negative comments based on culture or religion.
Bussemaker told ANP news agency that she wants to talk to sport clubs about a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on undesirable behaviour in sport and expects ‘substantial improvement’ within a few years.
