Police withdraw support for citizens patrol
Utrecht police have withdrawn their support for citizens’ patrols in the neighbourhood of Ondiep where a police shooting two weeks ago triggered several days of disturbances. After talks with locals in the largely white area on Thursday evening, police said that maintaining security was a job for them – not ordinary civilians.
In the days following the riots, both the police and city council appeared to give their support to the locals’ plan to run their own patrols.
