MPs question UN Lebanon mission

MPs from across the political spectrum have asked foreign minister Maxime Verhagen to report on what steps Lebanon is taking to disarm Hezbollah fighters. The Netherlands has supplied one frigate to the UN’s mission to Lebanon (UNIFIL) which is supposed to help the authorities disarm Hezbollah.

ANP reports that the frigate, supposed to counteract arms smuggling, has only uncovered contraband cigarettes. The right-wing VVD said if Lebanon was not taking enough action, the Netherlands should consider withdrawing its ship next August.
